Do I have OCD?

OCD stands for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which is a mental health disorder characterized by persistent and intrusive thoughts, images, or impulses (obsessions) that cause anxiety or distress, and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) that are performed to alleviate the anxiety caused by the obsessions. People with OCD may feel compelled to repeat certain behaviors or rituals, such as washing their hands repeatedly, checking and re-checking that doors are locked, or arranging objects in a specific way. These compulsions may provide temporary relief from the anxiety caused by the obsessions, but over time they can become time-consuming, disruptive, and interfere with daily life. OCD is a relatively common disorder, affecting about 1-2% of the population. It can be treated with a combination of medication and psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which focuses on changing the thought patterns and behaviors associated with the disorder.
